The picturesque alpine Lake Ledro is situated 650 metres above sea level and nestles in a valley in the hills above Lake Garda, and Lake Idro, it is surrounded by hills bright with wild flowers, perfect for nature lovers and ramblers.
Thanks to its splendid green colour and the crystalline water which reflects the surrounding mountains, this lake is considered to be one of the most beautiful lakes in Trentino.
Lake Ledro is primarily known for an archaeological finding, when the water of the lake was temporarily dredged during the construction of a hydroelectric power station in Riva del Garda in 1929, exposing an extensive lake dweller’s settlement, with hundreds of artefacts ranging from pots, tools made from wood, bone, bronze and flint, jewellery including crowns, dating back to the Bronze Age.
Until the early 1990’s lake Ledro was overshadowed by its more fashionable neighbour, Lake Garda, but the opening of a new tunnel connecting Ledro with Riva del Garda, Ledro has become a very popular and desirable lakeside destination.
Because of its reasonable altitude, Lake Ledro is a suitable location in the summer when the climate is ideal compared to the oppressive summer heat on lake Garda.
Lake Ledro is a perfect place for a break from the stresses of everyday life, relax along the shore of the lake with a good book or walk along the well signposted paths leading to spectacular views and picturesque scenery.
Ledro is within easy reach (by local bus) to the well know attractions of Lake Garda.
VERONA
From 1490 till 1517 the city was in the power of the Emperor Maximilian of Austria, it was taken from Austria by the Treaty of Pressburg in 1805 and became part of Napoleon's Kingdom of Italy, but was returned to Austria following Napoleon's defeat in 1814. In 1866 Verona, along with the rest of Venetian Region, became part of Italy.
The Roman amphitheatre " Arena of Verona "
One of the greatest and most prestigious archaeological monuments in Europe. Built in the first century A.C. during the last years of the emperor Augustus, is one of the largest buildings housing 22,000 spectators! The three storey outer circle collapsed after a severe earthquake in 1183, leaving just four arches remaining although the inner circle of 74 arches is still intact.
The first opera ( AIDA )was performed on 10th August 1913. Since then the Arena has been a centre of Opera.
It's no wonder Verona, with some of the world's best opera, is known as the city of romance, for anyone who's passionate about Italy and opera,Verona in the summer is heaven. Thousands of Italians as well as foreigners attend the open air operas every year.
Opera may be the main reason for coming to Verona, but by no means the only reason. Although the evening performance don't usually start until 21.15, the streets start to fill with crowds and the excitement builds long before that, and continues for several hours after the end of the opera performance.
